Performance evaluations for staff must be done each year.  Professional staff must have a performance evaluation within the last 12 months on file to be eligible for a merit increase.

Faculty generally supervise two categories of employees in their labs: professional staff research scientists and contract-classified staff research/lab techs.

For classified staff, use the bargaining unit classified staff performance evaluation form and add the criteria for your specific positions.

For professional staff, use the conversation approachstructured approach, or your own format. The important thing is that the evaluation/conversation happens and is documented with reviewer and reviewee signatures.

Raises for professional staff are considered in the following circumstances: application to a higher level position, reclassification to a higher level position, and retention of critical staff. For more information see University policy. If you would like to consider one of these salary increase processes for staff you supervise, please contact Michele Conrad.

Performance evaluations should only be retained for three years, then shredded. Please forward the evaluation to Michele Conrad if you want to centrally maintain the record.
