The following titles are considered temporary academic personnel. These titles are not permanent, not eligible for promotion or tenure and do not have voting rights.
Postdoctoral Scholars are tempoary employees, but unless there are extenuating circumstances, postdocs are hired for a min. of 12 months. Click the link above for a complete overview of this role and the various titles.
Visiting titles are also temporary titles. These include:
- Visiting Scholars (0438) (visiting faculty on sabbatic leave from other universities),
- Visiting International Professional Scholar (0436)
- Visiting Scientists (0437)
- Visiting Lecturers (0135)
- Visiting Assistant (0133),
- Visiting Associate (0132)
- Visiting Full Professor (0131)
While temporary faculty serve in their positions in the department they may have access to the IMA, University of Washington library system, UPass, Parking Services and under very specific circumstances may have access to health and retirement benefits.
International students pursuing bachelor, masters or doctoral degrees who wish to conduct research in faculty labs can intern in those labs through the VISIT Program (21 days-12 months) and VISER Program (13-24 months).
