Syllabus Description (from Canvas):

Biology 462- Advanced Animal Physiology

This course will be synchronous in Spring 2021 and class sessions will be recorded and posted.

Exams will be synchronous and take place on two Mondays from 5-6:30.  This will allow you extra time to download and upload the short answer exams. There will be 3 exams in the class (two mid-terms and 1 final) and all are cumulative, Exam 1- 100 pts; Exam 2-150 pts and Final is worth 200 pts.

The course focuses on a comparative physiology approach across vertebrates from fish to mammals.  We will focus on the following systems: Respiratory, Cardiovascular and Osmoregulation (Renal).

The class is taught using evidence-based teaching practices which require the students to actively engage with the material to gain a deep understanding of the underlying fundamental principles governing the mechanisms of each system.

We will use Thursday quiz section to practice applying your new found knowledge to compare and contrast organisms and synthesize your knowledge.

You will turn in a weekly summary sheet for 5pts.

You will attend and write up two UW life science seminars for 5 pts each

You will attend and write up a one hour career center event to help prepare you for your life post-graduation from the UW. (5 pts)
