Congratulations to Casey Self for receiving the 2026 UW Distinguished Teaching Award

We are pleased to announce that Casey Self, UW Biology Teaching Professor, has been selected to receive the 2026 UW Distinguished Teaching Award. Recipients of the Distinguished Teaching Award are chosen based on the degree to which they exemplify an iterative, reflective teaching practice with evidence of pedagogical experimentation and refinement over time; commitment to inclusive teaching and mentoring and valuing students’ experiences; dedication to creating transformative learning experiences that foster deep reflection and critical inquiry; and service as a mentor, collaborator and consultant on teaching-related matters to other faculty or teaching assistants.

Additionally, two other Biology-connected UW faculty members were honored in the 2026 Awards of Excellence:

Hannah Jordt, Associate Teaching Professor, Genome Sciences, School of Medicine

Hannah Jordt, Associate Teaching Professor in Genome Sciences, received both her undergraduate degree and Ph.D. from UW Biology. Hannah was also selected to receive the  2026 UW Distinguished Teaching Award.

Rebecca M. Price, Professor, School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences, UW Bothell

Rebecca M. Price, Professor in the UW Bothell School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences, received her undergraduate degree from UW Zoology. Becca was selected to receive the Distinguished Contributions to Lifelong Learning Award. This award is given to a full-time UW faculty member who has taught for at least two years in innovative non-degree programs sponsored by the University and designed for professional development, personal interest or career redirection.

We invite you to celebrate Casey, Hannah, Rebecca, and the other awardees at the Awards of Excellence ceremony at 3:30 p.m. on June 11 in Meany Hall. The program includes a one-hour ceremony hosted by President Robert J. Jones and Provost Tricia Serio, followed by a reception with hors d’oeuvres, desserts and a chance to connect and celebrate with your team members and the rest of the UW community.
